Topsy Turvy Funky Cake

This cake was made for a 13th birthday and I had a lot of fun making it. Originally it was suppose to be a Justin Beiber slab cake but the cake topper my customer ordered off Ebay did not arrive in time. I suggested changing the design of the cake and after looking at the various cakes I had made she gave be complete control over the design and look of the cake.

I wanted the cake to be fun and funky so of course I had to go with a topsy turvy cake.

I think it turned out great :) I was so excited to show the cake to my customer and I was acting just like a little kid right before Christmas. I kept checking the door in anticipation of her arrival. lol My husband had to tell me to sit down and relax.

Here are a few more views of the cake:

Hello Kitty

In honor of my daughter who starts kindergarten tomorrow, I have to share one of her favorite characters.

She has a Hello Kitty backpack, a Hello Kitty lunch bag and insisted on bringing her teacher a Hello Kitty cupcake.

The not so itsy bitty spider

A lady I worked with asked me to make a tarantula cake for her son's 19th birthday. Sounds like a weird request right? Well her son had 2 tarantulas and loves them.  Anyone who knows me knows that I hate spiders. It was actually quite humorous that I spent most the day staring at spiders in an effort to get this to be as realistic as possible.

As it turns out my kids LOVE love love the cake and were very sad to hear that it was for a customer and they would not be able to eat it. Both my 5 year old son and my 3 year old daughter are now begging me to make them a tarantula cake. ROFL
